Why study Spanish?

  • Did you know that according to the Spanish speakers, Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world?
  • Did you know that if you speak Spanish you can communicate with more than 500 million people around the world?
  • Did you know that there are more than 328 millions native speakers? With 329 million native speakers, Spanish ranks as the world's No. 2 language in terms of how many people speak it as their first language. It is slightly ahead of English (328 million) but far behind Chinese (1.2 billion).
  • Did you know that Spanish is the official language in 21 countries?
  • Do you know in what countries Spanish is the official language?
    In Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea Ecuatorial, Honduras, Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela.

These are some characteristics of Latin-American Spanish.

  • Most of the  colonizers where from Andalusia, therefore their way of speaking influenced the language.
  • “El Seseo”:  The “c” and “z” is pronounced as “s”. As in the word shoe (Zapato)  will be pronounce as “Sapato”
  • “El  yeísmo”: To pronounce “ll” and “”y” in the same way. (In Argenitna: as the /sh/ sound in English)
  • “El voseo”: To use “vos” instead of “tú” more often. (Specially in Argentina)
  • “Arcaísmo”: To preserve old words.
  • “Neologismo”: To use new words mainly English ones.
  • Our own words: We still use some words that aborigines used to use. Such as “Canoa”, “Cacique
    We strongly believe that Spanish is a beautiful language, and also that the learning process becomes easier when you are in a Spanish speaking country.

Why study English?

English has become an official language or has a special status in 75 territories.
